Morning Platitude from The GratiDude
Doing new and interesting things always starts with the energetic beginnings of an idea, a thought.
By having the thought of doing something you have created the mathematical possibility to manifest whatever it is that you were imagining between your ears and in your heart.
From here, the odds can go one of two ways; they can either improve or go the other direction and become higher odds with less probability. The determining factor of which way an idea goes in its likelihood and process of manifesting is strictly dependent on our own ability to keep unhealthy fear out of the creative process. Once you weight down the rocket ship of desire and dreaming with the lead weight-heaviness of fear and uncertainty and doubt, you’re soaring dreams can often come crashing to the ground.
Then what are the ways that you can keep your dreams alive?
Fundamentally it starts with your own self-talk because if you can’t get a dream started in your own mind, it becomes impossible to share it with other people.
You could take anything that you enjoy or like to experience out in the world that has been created by other people and walk-through the process of how it might have come to fruition.
How about a golf course for example?
The Quiet Caddy Program is an exercise in mindfulness that uses a different set of rules to play 3 holes of golf in silence, something they might not try otherwise. The program’s methodology asks players before they tee off to contemplate the origins of the Golf Course they are standing on. Was it ALWAYS a golf course? Of course not. What might this land looked like prior to becoming a golf course?
This contemplation allows us to appreciate and recognize the fact that even a golf course starts out in someone’s mind before it becomes a physical reality, and that it all starts with a dream or an idea of creating a golf course in that particular location.
Dreams then need concrete steps and dates with actions to become goals and that’s when you take the risk of sharing your dream with other people and looking for folks in your life and in the universe that are willing to join in making your dream a reality. In this case, the dream is working with you on the project of creating a golf course.
You have to acquire the land, and have the zoning in place to allow the building of a golf course.
You will need a partner to help to design the golf course and from there all of the infrastructure that is required for farming( a golf course is just a fancy farm) and put in place in the forms of irrigation, power, and moving lots of dirt.
And if you bring this idea to people close to you and they tell you how horrible of an idea it is, or that it won’t work, or that you shouldn’t pursue this dream, well you are going to have a really tough time.
This is why dreamers need to hang out with other dreamers and birds of a feather need to flock together.
Fear can either hinder or act as a catalyst for pursuing dreams, depending on how it's perceived and managed.
Fear as an Obstacle:
Fear can be a significant roadblock, stopping individuals from taking risks and stepping out of their comfort zones.
Examples include fear of failure, the unknown, rejection, or external pressure and expectations.
This can lead to procrastination, self-doubt, negative self-talk, and ultimately prevent individuals from achieving their aspirations.
Fear as a Motivator:
Fear can also serve as a powerful motivator, driving individuals to move towards their goals with urgency and purpose.
It can push individuals beyond their comfort zones and challenge their limits, forcing them to develop new skills and build resilience.
By acknowledging and addressing fears, individuals can leverage them as fuel for growth and development, leading to innovative thinking and problem-solving, particularly in high-stakes situations.
Reframing Fear:
View fear as a signal: Instead of seeing fear as an enemy, acknowledge it as a signpost indicating areas in need of attention, growth, or change.
Embrace vulnerability: Recognize that vulnerability is not weakness, but a catalyst for growth and transformation.
Practice mindful awareness: Observe fears without judgment to detach from their paralyzing grip and respond intentionally.
Reframe fear as excitement: Since fear and excitement are closely related, intentionally reframe fear as excitement to focus on possibilities rather than perceived threats.
Embrace the journey: Fear can teach us to value the process of growth and discovery rather than solely focusing on the outcome.
Ultimately, the key lies in understanding and managing fear. By reframing fear, building resilience, and developing a supportive mindset, individuals can prevent fear from hindering their dreams and instead use it as a driving force for positive change and personal growth.
I’m not telling you need to be a dreamer, I’m just telling you that we can’t hang out very much if you’re not a dreamer because I’m into dreaming these days and doing big things before my life expires and I move onto the next adventure.
If you want to do new and different things in your life and you’re surrounded by naysayers and negative people, you are better off keeping your dreams to yourself until you find a healthier tribe to run with that will support your dreams and ambitions.
