Morning Platitude from The GratiDude
When you look at life like a roller coaster ride, that comparison might just fit.
One significant difference is that you don’t get to ride this roller coaster twice-so don’t bother rushing to get back in line cause this is a one-time only affair.
There are a few analogies here that can come out of the roller coaster so let’s take a trip to Sandusky Ohio this morning and think about some of these ways we can use the roller coaster ride as a metaphor for this ride of life.

When you don’t know how the ride is going to go yet you’re OK with not knowing, that’s a terrific way to approach the roller coaster ride and life. Because this is a new ride for us and we’ve never been here before we don’t know what’s coming around the next turn and instead of thinking about what’s coming or guessing we’re better off remaining present and enjoying the experience of what’s happening right now.
Yes, surprises are undeniably a part of life. They are an inherent aspect of the human experience, encompassing both positive and negative unexpected events, according to the Greater Good Science Center. While some surprises can be delightful, others can be unwelcome, and they all have the potential to significantly alter our lives, according to Medium.
Here's why surprises are such a fundamental part of life:
Unexpected Events:
Life is inherently unpredictable. We cannot foresee all the events that will unfold, and therefore, many experiences will inevitably be surprising, says Quora.
Emotional Impact:
Surprises, both positive and negative, can evoke strong emotions. They can trigger happiness, joy, sadness, or even fear, and often intensify our feelings about the situation, according to a psychology article.
Learning Opportunities:
Surprises can also be opportunities for growth and learning. They can force us to adapt, problem-solve, and develop resilience, according to LinkedIn.
Altered Perceptions:
Unexpected events can challenge our beliefs and assumptions, leading to shifts in perspective and understanding, says Treeshake.
Unpredictable World:
The world is full of random and unexpected occurrences. From minor inconveniences to major life changes, surprises are an unavoidable part of navigating our daily lives, according to Cairn.info.
In conclusion, while we can try to anticipate and plan for certain events, the element of surprise will always be a part of the human experience, says Memory Minders. Embracing the unexpected, both the good and the bad, is essential for navigating life's journey.
It’s also interesting to consider that just like our own lives, there are innumerable numbers of people that are contributing to making our life happen for us that we may not ever be able to meet or acknowledge. Like the project lead for this particular roller coaster that’s in this video can attest there were probably 1000 different people that worked on building this roller coaster when it comes down to the engineering, the manufacturing, the assembly and all of the other details that go into making this a safe and enjoyable experience for the patrons of Cedar Point.
Our lives are no different in that every single person that we meet or that we have the opportunity to share life with comes from a family and a circumstance and a situation that was created by all sorts of actors and authors that contributed to making their life what it was. There were lots of folks that provided them the ability to move out into the world so that they could meet you and collaborate on making dreams come true together.
We can also look at this roller coaster experience being like life in that it’s a lot more fun to have somebody to share the experience with.
In other words when you get off the ride, it’s a lot more enjoyable to be able to go back over the experience with somebody that did the experience with you and compare notes on what you liked what freaked you out, or what were your favorite parts of the experience? Sharing any life experience makes it more enjoyable, and when you can talk and to integrate that experience together, it builds extraordinarily strong memories through shared experiences, and through a deeper understanding of how you related to that experience itself.
And the way life works, as Bob Marley sang, “once a man and twice a child and everything is just for a while”. In some ways, we end up right where we began, right, where our ride started, alone, and about to embark on a new cosmic adventure. In the case of being born, we’re coming into the human experience and doing the best to remember all of the beautiful cosmic things that we have in our soul while not absorbing too much of other people‘s impressions of the human experience so that we have the opportunity to experience the beauty all around us and not be bogged down with too much programming that drives sphere and uncertainty. This is also a great way to look at the transition or what is commonly called death where our conscious soul moves on to reintegrate from the source of our creation, which becomes another new roller coaster, ride full of different types of exhilaration and experiences that we will have to ride to be able to fully understand.
Just like this human experience.
So hold on tight and don’t be afraid to scream once in a while when the twist and turns are more surprising than you expected, and if you can have someone really cool and caring sitting next to you so that as the ride slows down, you can start to talk about what you like the most, and appreciate life together by sharing your properly amused attitude of gratitude.
